Hungarian goulash Pörkölt

2 large onions, chopped
3 cloves of garlic, minced
2-3 peppers, chopped
2 tbsp paprika powder (sweet or hot, depending on your taste)
1 can of chopped tomatoes (approx. 400 g)
2-3 bay leaves
1 tsp caraway
Salt and pepper to taste
2-3 tbsp oil for frying
Optional: potatoes or dumplings for the side dish
